GEI Conference 2015 – a huge thank you!

The 7th edition of Green Events & Innovations, A Greener Festival’s and Buck New University’s leading conference on event and festival sustainability, is done and done dusted in front of a packed audience at this years’s International Live Music Conference. With an audience that included representatives from many festivals including Shambala and Glastonbury in the UK, DGTL in the Netherlands, Boom in Portugal, Burning Man (US), Body & Soul (Ireland) and Ruisrock in Finland. Topics covered in 2015 included managing waste – focussing on food waste, campite waste and power management and a presentation from Ed Cooke on the legalities behind waste disposal and recycling. This was followed by an excellent keynote from Ben Hardy from Bristol 2015, the Green Capital of Europe this year, a panel on ‘communicating the message’ and spreading the green message. After lunch delegates heard about the social impact of events with a panel that included musician and producer Martyn Ware (Heaven 17) and Ruth Daniels from in Place Of War, a case study from Rob Scully at the Glastonbury Festival and a look at audience behaviour and values led by Dr Stephen Henderson from Leeds Beckett University.

Teresa Moore from Bucks Univefrsity summed it by by saying “I thought the whole day went really well and it was most certainly the best programme GDEI hasd ever presented” and Claire O’Neill from AGF added “I went away feeling really inspired. Not just happy with how the day went, but actually genuinely moved by seeing all of that of the “talking shop” content from the last 8 years has actually come to fruition and the change is really being made. I’m quite over the moon”.
