New conference on commercial waste

With 35% of trade waste arising from companies with less than 50 employees, providing low-cost and accessible recycling services to SMEs is the next big challenge for local authorities and waste contractors.

Commercial Waste 2012 examines the recent policy and legislative drivers that have been put in place to encourage more trade waste collections from SMEs, and will examine the opportunities and barriers to increase material capture rates in an economically viable way.

Attend this one day conference to:

• Examine the opportunities and barriers to increasing material capture rates among SMEs in a cost-effective way
• Hear the latest thinking on how local authorities and waste contractors can provide better trade waste recycling to SMEs through new models of service provision
• Gain first hand insight into how local authorities, the private sector, BIDs and community groups are engaging with SMEs
• Learn how to encourage and incentivise SMEs to participate in recycling schemes
• Hear first hand from SMEs on what they are looking for in a waste service provider

Confirmed speakers include:

• Louise Clark, Commercial and Industrial Waste Policy Lead, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
• Councillor Clyde Loakes, Vice Chairman Environment Board, Local Government Association
• Matthew Farrow, Director of Policy, Environmental Services Association
