Kara Djurhuus

Roskilde Festival

Ms. Kara Djurhuus has worked in youth engagement programmes since 2003, currently as Head of Philanthropy at the Roskilde Festival Group. Roskilde Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Europe and the largest in the Nordics, and a non-profit organization for development and support of music, culture, and humanism. Kara is leading the Roskilde Festival Groups broad range of co-creative NGO partnerships, as well as the donations towards strengthening young people’s communities, agency, and platforms for civic engagement. Kara is representing Roskilde Festival in the newly founded Human Rights Alliance in Denmark. On behalf of Roskilde Festival, she is a member of the grant committee of the Popular Engagement Fond in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs that seeks to engage more young Danish people in global agendas and collaborations for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.    

Before joining the Roskilde Festival Group in 2019, Ms. Kara Djurhuus’ professional career was in International Development working with the UN and the Red Cross in MENA, Africa, and Europe., most recently as the International Director of the Danish Red Cross Youth (2015-19). Kara is an expert in the design and delivery of rights based social inclusion and civic engagement programs for marginalized populations, with an extensive understanding of the NGO and INGO sector. Kara holds a deep interest in the interlinkages between arts and social change, and how artistic and creative approaches can be key in accelerating social innovation.
